"Darling!"

A bolt of lightning flew out horizontally, striking a young man square in the chest and sending him rolling backwards into a nearby fence. Fortunately he had the good sense to not get up, and instead let his body crumple into a more comfortable position where it was less likely that he would invoke further wrath.

Of course, the source of that freak bolt was none other than the beautiful alien girl Lum, and the boy was the unluckiest human on the planet Ataru Moroboshi. In some ways he was the very embodiment of the phrase "you make your own luck". This boy's attitude was just about as wrong as you could get. He fancied himself a playboy, but lacked both the looks and charm necessary to pull it off.

"You should give up on that stupid harem dream of yours!" Lum huffed. Yes, that's right. Ataru wanted a harem. A lot of men have trouble handling a relationship with one women, but this boy wanted the relationship type that got exponentially more difficult the more people you added to it. "Aren't I good enough, darling?"

And here is what we meant by Ataru sometimes making his own luck. Rather than doing the sensible thing and not saying anything, or maybe taking the chance to score with the super cute alien... "N-Nope!" Ataru answered, sticking out his tongue as he stood up. Lum smacked him with an electricity conducting slap, then flew off in a huff.

"Ooh, darling can be such a hassle sometimes!" Lum huffed, drifting off towards her parked spaceship rather than the Moroboshi residence. "He doesn't know a good thing when he has it!"

It rather makes one wonder, does it not? Why is she the one pursuing him, when she is clearly above his league? Well, love is a truly mysterious thing. She's so frustrated with his lecherous behaviour, hitting on other girls all the time. Yet there she is, cheerily trying her very best to lure him into marriage.

Inside her spaceship, Lum scoops her space mail up with just a hint of anger, then collapses onto her couch. "Junk," she says, incinerating it with an annoyed spark. "Junk, junk... Junk... Wait, hold on. What's this?"

Like the rest, an advertisement. Unlike the others it was for something Lum actually found a little bit interesting. "Tired of being ignored by your perfect man? Does his eye wander? Do you still love him anyway? In that case, try our newest product: Perfect You. Pick your significant other, and learn all the skills that you will need to make them yours!"

Interesting. According to its testimonials it seemed legitimate. There was an absolute guarantee as well. "Your chosen mate can't resist, or your money doubled will be given back." That was a pretty bold statement! Alright then. She tapped the advertisement, entered the relevant payment information and waited for the delivery.

Ooh, this was going to be good. On the one hand if it worked then Ataru would be hers, all hers! If it didn't then she'd made a tidy little profit. Win/win so far as she could see.

In that sense one might almost be able to say that like her beloved, Lum sometimes made her own luck as well.

In this case, I kind of felt it was a shame there wasn't so much Urusei Yatsura stuff on here. That classic series should be rife for hypnotic erotica, but so few take it up.
