So a while ago I was working on a manip that didn’t work out the way I liked, and I got it in my head to learn how to draw, despite not having touched a pencil in fifteen years. This came out of it. I know it’s very rough, but I have no idea what I’m doing atm, especially concerning colouring and shading. If this doesn’t meet the quality standards, feel free to chuck it.

I sketched this with pencil from an image I found (linked as source), traced the sketch with a marker, then scanned it. I touched up the line art and coloured it in GIMP.

For what it's worth, I think this is a good foundation on which to build! You've got the basic anatomy down, especially the curve at the small of the back and the indent on the ribs look right. Heck, I myself STILL struggle with getting that little "pinch" in the elbow to look good, but you pulled it off really nicely!

If I may recommend, practice a little more with your anatomical perspective so that things like the shoulders line up right, and experiment with line weight/thickness a bit, and I think you can make some really great stuff! Above all, just keep drawing. Those fifteen years of not holding a pencil will evaporate faster than you think, I bet.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. Line thickness is a thing I'm working on, I got myself a set of pigment liners that work much better than a marker. I'm also considering getting a digital tablet, since I end up putting my drawings through GIMP anyway, so I may as well learn to draw digitally. For now I just try to sketch a few things every day.

I think that's a good plan, both the sketching every day and the saving up for a tablet. Can't wait to see your output!

Very nice first attempt! The shading is excellent work and the anatomy is pretty spot on

Hope to see more from you ^^
