To call the Fire Nation princess Azula intimidating would be a dramatic understatement. Outside of the nation, she was regarded as a ruthless leader, with some going so far as to label her a murderous psychopath. Whatever she was, she was a dangerous threat to the Earth Nation, and I had been sent out to deal with her.
Am I an assassin? No, not really. While I pose a similar threat, you don't send an assassin to take out someone like Azula. Conflict is her entire life, and to present her with more would be to challenge her on familiar territory. A single person like myself would be dead meat. No, I'm not an assassin. I'm a masseur.
"Understand something: If you try anything even remotely suspicious, I'll roast you like a chicken.
I knew of Azula's fear tactics, but even that didn't keep a chill from running down my spine. As such, fear was a very easy emotion to bring to my words. "Oh of course, Princess. It's an honor to be of use to you, and I wouldn't dare harm that trust.”
“Trust?" Azula laughed. "Don't flatter yourself. You are a means to an end. Relieve my stress or I will find someone who will.”
"Yes, Princess. I understand. ...I-if you wouldn't mind disrobing…”
Azula glared at me as if insulted that I would dare to ask her to do anything. Still, she did as I asked, slipping out of her thick red robes and making it abundantly clear that she was only doing so because she chose to, not because I'd asked her to. For a moment, I was taken aback-she had an incredible body, taut with muscle and carefully honed power. She didn't appear to be someone interested in appealing to others. Instead, every inch of her body was designed for absolute peak performance. If I hadn't thought it before, I knew now that I couldn't take her in a straight fight, even with every advantage in the world.
I'd been so enraptured in examining her muscular back and arms that I hadn't noticed her derisive stare. “Don't waste your time on, impossible dreams. Do your job to my satisfaction and perhaps you will return to do so a second time. Breathe a word of what you see to and you won't leave this city alive.” Her tone was that of someone so completely confident that they could back up their words that it seemed more like an oath than a threat. The idea that a woman like this could rule an entire nation...
"Of course, Princess." I wheedled pathetically, averting my eyes as I gathered a tray of essential oils, heated rocks, and other tools for my trade. Azula laid down on her stomach on my table, and as I coated my hands in a slick oil made of juiced herbs to exfoliate and freshen the skin, I noticed her turn her head away from me. A more inexperienced person would consider this an opening, but I could read her muscles like a book. She was as tight as a drum, expecting a fight any second and more than ready to kill me in an instant. Perhaps to her surprise, I acted as if I didn't notice, reaching for her shoulder blades as I began to work my thumbs into her muscles in a circular pattern.
Azula didn't relax for the entire massage, which made my true work difficult. I used my best relaxation techniques, but her paranoia kept her on edge the whole time. Her musculature was easy to pick out with my experienced fingers, but with someone as strong as her, I doubted I could
"HEY!"
Azula swept a leg at my side, sending my flying into the wall through raw strength. I don't know how she'd done it, but she'd discovered that something was up. “WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME!?" Her hand glowed with blue flame as she stood over me, ready to snuff me out like a candle, but the fact that she summoned fire caught her off guard.
“Please,” I begged, panic flowing from my body as easily as tears. “Please, it was just a tense nerve I-I didn't mean to hurt you!”
"Hurt me?" Azula asked, confused. She should be I knew she hadn't felt an ounce of pain. She frowned, looking down at the flame in her hands once more before seriously eyeing me up as I groveled and begged quietly for my life. She was frighteningly close to the truth “...It was nothing. We're through here. Your work is pathetic, and you are no longer welcome. Take your things and leave.”
I did so quickly and with many a fearfully mumbled thanks, eager to be anywhere this woman was not. I had survived first contact with Azula, but I had failed my mission. ..No, I hadn't failed yet. Were that the case, I'd be a burning corpse right now. I could still accomplish what I'd been tasked to do, but I needed to find another way for Azula to put her guard down around me. I needed a backup plan...
