So in this world it's not Edward's mother who's died but Winry? That's actually pretty interesting idea with Edward keep hesitating when he try to kill her.

It's only the original anime where the homunculi were resurrected people. In the manga and Brotherhood anime they were created by injecting a Philosopher's Stone into a human host. In this case, Winry has been turned into the new Lust.
