Yes, I have been reading Scandinavia and the World. How very intelligent of you to guess. ^_^

For those of you who didn't know, this is a VERY inaccurate, and a lot more hypnotic, retelling of the union between Sweden and Norway, from 1814 to 1905.

Very briefly and slightly more accurately: In 1814, Sweden was given the rule over Norway, partly as a reward for allying with Russia and the United Kingdom against France in the Napoleonic war, and partly as compensation for losing Finland to Russia a few years earlier. Norway at the time had been under Danish rule for 400 years, and the united Denmark-Norway (which had sided with France in the war) weren't keen on having Sweden get Norway... so Norway declared independence and formed its own constitution. The split from Denmark was amicable, and the Danish prince Christian Frederick was elected king of Norway. However, Sweden wasn't about to lose their new land, and the great world powers were on Sweden's side... so after a brief war and some even briefer negotiations, Carl Frederick abdicated and Norway was officially put under Swedish rule. Though it WAS allowed to keep its newly-formed Constitution, just slightly revised.

The union between Sweden and Norway lasted until 1905, when increasing differences of opinion eventually led to Norway once again declaring independence. There was some fears that it would come to war again, but it didn't... and Norway finally got to elect a Danish prince as its king: Prince Carl of Denmark took the throne and became King Haakon VII of Norway.

As far as I know, no hypnosis was actually involved at any points, but such is life!

(Oh.... and Jämtland and Härjedalen are two providences which switched ownership between Sweden and Norway several times, long before the union happened, but which ended up belonging to Sweden.)
