Apparently the magic itself works on a placebo effect, or he's just such a dick that the only coherent thought he allows is "i cant form a coherent thought

I think what's actually is happening is that the caster makes sure the sub is able to form thoughts while in this state, but none on getting free or disobeying. They're still conscious on the situation, but has to obey. So messing with the mind with body control
