That's the only part I didn't really care for in endgame.

That they changed the rules of the gauntlet's/stones' use. infinity war; not only does Thanos do "the snap" and use the individual stones throughout the film but nothing bad happens to him, no pain no life threatening energy burst and burns, etc. but then in endgame even just putting the gauntlet on your hand can nearly kill you.

Even in the Endgame there is no consequence to simply using the stones individually, so no rules were changed there.
In Infinity War you can see the energy course through Thanos' body when he puts on the finished gauntlet with all the stones. It damages Hulk's arm, it rattles Thanos (who is stronger than the Hulk). Not really breaking any rules.
