I believe it came from the 2019 Joker movie. At least I started seeing it after the first trailer came out. Basically the reason the main character in Joker goes of the deep end is because the society he lives in, which is meant to reflect our society, treats him like crap(I'm oversimplifying here), and basically the internet did it's thing and turned into a meme. I could be wrong but that's how I understand it.

Actually it came from the joker from the dark knight series, the joker criticized society but never on anything that really mattered, so people took his phrase “we live in a society” and pasted it to shallow political cartoons to point out just how little the subject mattered. Eventually the phrase itself became a meme referencing joker and the “intelligent” crown
