It sounds like a bad application of show don't tell. Not that there's many good ways to apply that.

Then again I wonder how I'd rewrite that to be less clunky. Especially since this is an actual published comic and not porn.

The answer's simple, really. Trust the artists to do their part and don't put in unnecessary dialogue.
