Nice manip!
Not really that great at feedback but I'm gonna give it a try, feel free to ignore it if you aren't looking for it.

Maybe try a slightly more feathered edge, only like 1-2px, for the spiral to try to remove the slightly visible jagged edge. The fact that this is a gif and gif's cant be resized is probably just serving to make this more visible too though.

Secondly, maybe it could look nice if one added a slight spherize distortion (using photoshop terms assuming you use photoshop) to the spiral to sort of emulate the roundness of an eyeball. It'd probably have to be very subtle but might help make the spiral look less flat.
A last thing that might also help with the spiral feeling flat, though this might be a personal preference thing, is to add the small highlight shimmer back into the eye as well as lowering the contrast of the spiral ever so slightly, just so it is not pure black and pure white to match the rest of the image a little better.

Still though, nice manip!
