It consists mainly of RPGs in which the player collects various species of monsters ("Pokemon") in order to learn more about them, and trains them to fight each other in a championship to be recognized as the best Pokemon Trainer. The series is enormously successful, and has inspired a huge media franchise spanning numerous anime, manga, and video game spinoffs.
